Case Study 10.1 1. Lee displays the following characteristics of servant leadership: Listening, empathy, awareness, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment of the growth of people, and building community. 2. Lee’s servant leadership style comes from her background of being raised without her mother. She and her siblings had to pitch in as much as possible around the house. This idea of serving the needs of her family blossomed into serving the needs of the people in her community. She felt so connected to the community that teaching and eventually leading in her old school became a natural progression in life because she is truly invested in serving and meeting the needs of the people in her community. 3. Lee does not want Laci and Tyler to be alone on a virtual island in their first year of teaching. She knows they need support because she wants them to grow and succeed and be valued member of the school community and by doing this, Lee is creating a positive impact on the future of the school because she is investing her time on new teachers so they can professionally grow. 4. Lee should place some sort of collaboration into the new teacher’s action plan, because no matter how long a teacher has worked in the classroom it is better to work smarter and not harder.
